Mr L Muthiaha Udayar was born in the year 1912 . He joined Royal Indian Army after completing is SSLC at St Joseph’s college , Trichy .He retired as subedar, from the army after serving in the Army in the year 1946 . He came to Vailankanni in the year 1947 by using one rupee pension he got from the Indian Government he tried his hands in various business like provision stores , Meat shop , fire wood shop before opening a restaurant. Hotel Dravidar was started in 1955 under thatched roof with just one employee. It offered only breakfast - Idli being the only item sold . Idly was placed on the table and customers used to have them and make the payment themself in the cash table which was almost left unattended . It was continued by his son who expanded it further and now it is being run by the third generation .
Offering views of the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health (a revered pilgrimage site) a 6-minute walk away, this casual budget hotel is also a 12-minute walk from Velankanni train station and 5 minutes on foot from Velankanni Beach.
